Henry Gomez, widely known in the music industry as “King Cosmos,” was born and raised in Princes Town, Trinidad and Tobago. He later moved to Canada and continued to share his Calypso sounds and expand his knowledge. He graduated from the University of Toronto, completed a Master of Fine Arts Degree at York University, and took acting classes at Ryerson University. He began to excel as a musician, educator, composer, and television extra.
He is recognized as one of Canadas best Calypso performers known for his catchy, uplfting music like song “Island Girl”. He has performed at venues across Toronto including the Harbourfront Centre, The Bamboo Club, and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, as well as internationally.
King Cosmos released his first album, Culture Shock, in 1990, and later released Half Breed in 1998, Dis One Hot (1997), Fire (2000) and More Fire (2005). He performed in Quebec and Alberta while representing Canada at the Chinese New Year Festival in Hong Kong. He has also performed at the Caribana Arts and Cultural Festival and North York Centre for the Performing Arts. He hosted the 17th Annual Afrofest in Toronto in 2005 and appeared on the Mike Bullard Show.
The talented Calypsonian holds many awards including, Canadian Reggae Music Award winner (1998), former Canadian Calypso Monarch (1995), and a Chalmers Award recipient. He also has many nominations and is a founding member and first chair of OCPA ( Organization of Calypso Performing Artists). In his music career, he focused on indie genre recording artists at DAGGA label and is widely known as a versatile entertainer.
