Chester Miller was born in Mandeville, Jamaica, and moved to Toronto as a child. Miller has been an active reggae and dancehall performer and songwriter since the 1980’s. Inspired and influenced by Leroy Sibbles and Dennis Emmanuel Brown, he began singing at the age of 16 and released his first single “Saturday Evening” three years into his career in 1983. His name became prominent after performing at a Dennis Brown tribute concert in Kingston, Jamaica, in 2019, catching the eye of Tim Dub and Josh Goldman. Dub and Goldman collaborated with Miller to create the 2022 five song album Loving Feeling, with Dub and Goldman writing the music, and Miller writing the lyrics.
Miller has won several Canadian Reggae Music Awards including Top Male Performer, Top Male Vocalist, Top Reggae CD/Album, and a Juno Award nomination for his album Never Let Jah Go. He has brought his name beyond Canadian borders with a performance at the 2023 Bersenbrück Reggae Jan N’1 Festival in Germany and a European Tour in the same year. The talented musician has performed alongside the likes of Ernest Ranglin, Steel Pulse, Third World, Judy Mowatt, and Freddie McGregor. Extending beyond music, Miller has produced for Sly and Robbie and Jackie Mittoo.
The talented lyricist uses his music to reconnect with the roots of the genre, tapping back into the soul of reggae.
