DL Incognito’s music effortlessly blends artistry with poetry to produce compelling, organic, and nuanced lyrics. His cleverness shines without overwhelming listeners with knowledge. Influenced by East Coast style hip-hop legends such as Jay-Z and Nas, Olivier Nestor aka DL Incognito has been an acclaimed independent artist for over 20 years. He has released multiple projects which have earned him two JUNO Award nominations, including Best Rap Recording. Born and raised in Ottawa with Haitian and French Canadian heritage, he now resides in Toronto, where he continues to solidify his reputation as one of Canada’s most respected lyricists.
Released in 2002, A Sample and a Drum Machine, featuring iconic tracks like “Audio Coke”. This album showcased a budding young rap artist equipped with sharp wordplay and smooth rhythms. Life’s A Collection of Experiences released in 2004, featured a more mature DL Incognito, with each track taking on a personal tone. The album covered topics such as his mother’s battle with cancer, failed relationships, and his views on hip-hop. This introspective helped him connect more deeply with his audience, paving the way for his follow-up records.
In 2006 DL released Organic Music For A Digital World which earned a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year at the 2007 JUNO Awards. Following the success of this album, A Captured Moment in Time was released in 2008, which continued to showcase his expert lyricism coupled with poignant personal stories. In 2009, A Captured Moment in Time was nominated for Rap Recording of the Year at the 2009 JUNO Awards.
DL Incognito believes that good music will naturally find its way into the hearts and ears of the right listener, so he focuses on creating exceptional music that will organically become hits. He operates his own independent label, Orng Peel Laab® which he founded with longtime collaborator, Techtwelve. The label is dedicated to creating a cohesive alternative sound, while also offering high-quality physical goods from vinyl to apparel.
