Ryan Ofei

Born in Ghana, Ryan Ofei first moved to the U.S. for his father’s studies, and then when he was 9 his family relocated to Canada. He grew up in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in a very strict and religious family who would spend most of their time in church. When he got older, he decided to go to Carleton University in Ottawa in order to escape his confining life and find himself. It was here where he began writing and recording R&B songs, and began distancing himself from his faith.
During this time his friends and him formed an R&B boy band, and won a contest that would allow them to open for the rapper Rick Ross. One night, however, during his first year of university when he was coming home from a party during a blizzard, he had a near-death experience when a truck almost hit his car. This was the wake-up call he needed. He decided that it was time to reconnect with his faith. They turned down the Rick Ross opportunity, and then he began rediscovering his faith through Christian and gospel music. He wanted to create music that would reflect his life journey and faith.
In 2019, he released his first singles “No Limits” and “Jehova”, performing in cities like Paris and New York, and even went back to his childhood church in Columbus. It was during the pandemic lockdown where he joined the Atlanta-based group, Maverick City Music, as a songwriter and as a performer. He has since been a part of Gammy award winning albums. In 2023, he began working on a new project, where he assembled a Toronto-based team to help him with his new album Restore, which has a blend of gospel, R&B, and afrobeat influences. The album was dropped in 2024, and features songs such as “Celebrate” and “Father’s House”. Ofei continues to be committed to worship and showing his love and devotion of his faith through his music.
