Graph Nobel is a Canadian hip-hop artist who incorporates both pop, punk, and rock elements into the music they create. She was born in Toronto to Trinidadian parents where she was exposed to all types of music as part of the culture. These types of music include Parang, reggae, soca and calypso, with some of her major musical inspirations being Nas and “Bonita Applebum” by A Tribe Called Quest. Her stage name comes from the shortening of the nickname ‘Graffiti Tone’.
Graph Nobel began her musical journey at the age of 14 writing her own songs, and three years later she begin recording in a professional studio with Producer 2Rude. In September 2002, Graph Nobel won the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award. As she progressed in her musical journey she moved to New York City where she would collaborate with multiple artists including Gravity, Simon Wilcox, and becoming the third member of the group Idle Warship, working with them on their mixtape, Party Robot. She has also worked with the recording company Aftermath Entertainment which was founded by Dr. Dre.
After she returned from New York she became a part of ‘Black Corners’ a collective of artists who have a progressive approach to music. Through all of this experience Graph Nobel has created a very unique sound that cannot be confined to a single genre. This can be seen through her varied discography both those that she has published and those that she has been featured on.
