The Sidewinders

The Sidewinders were a seven-piece funk band from Nova Scotia, recognized for writing one of Canada’s best heavy funk albums. Raymond Myers played saxophone, Jerry Holland played keyboards, Jerry Jenkins played guitar, Hank Anderson played the bass, Alexander Link played the trumpet, Jerry Ayers also played the trumpet, and Reggie Barnes played the drums; together, they composed and self-produced one LP. Al Feeney contributed to the composition of “Voyage.”

Flatfoot Hustlin was released in 1977 and recorded at the Audio Atlantic studio in Halifax, their hometown. These men saw that there was a growing need for the recognition and exposure of Black music, so they set their goal of producing an album. Facing difficulties along the way, Flatfoot Hustlin was a three-year long process.

Today, an original copy of this record goes from $1,000 to $1,600, demonstrating the lasting impact and inspiration they have made to Canadian funk artists.
