Britta Badour, also known as Britta B., is an accomplished poet, artist, educator, performer and emcee. Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario her love of words landed her at the University of Guelph where she graduated with a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. The Toronto based spoken word artist was selected as the Breakthrough Artist and COCA Lecturer of the Year in 2021 by the Toronto Arts Foundation. She released her debut poetry collection, Wires that Sputter, in 2023. The collection reflects on pop culture, sports, family dynamics, and Black liberation. She notes her storytelling ability to be deeply rooted by her family connection, community and experience of Blackness.
Badour uses her exceptional talents to give back to the community and next generations. Her work has been featured across North America in notable spaces and programs like the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), CBC Arts: Poetic License, The Walrus Talks, TEDx, and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. She teaches spoken word at Seneca College and has facilitated multiple training seminars, poetry workshops and social justice programs in partnership with organizations like JAYU, Poetry In Voice, Prologue Performing Arts, and League of Canadian Poets. Through facing stage fright and thinking of vocal delivery and body movements, she helps her students get comfortable with themselves and express their creativity.
