The singer, songwriter, and guitarist Bukola is a rising Nigerian Canadian artist. While doing what she calls “turning words into worlds” she skillfully combines R&B, soul and jazz to captivate audiences and reflect her personal experiences. With support from award nominated producers, her work has been praised by the likes of the CBC and local publications across British Columbia.
Hailing from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Bukola has always loved stories. Her passion for music, however, began after she heard Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair.” Inspired by Smith, she began writing and recording music at nine years old. By twelve, she purchased first guitar from Toys R Us. Into her teenage years, Bukola began to perform publicly—participating in events like the Teen Open Mic Night at Gallagher Cafe in Port Moody, British Columbia and the Nimbus School of Recording Arts Battle of The Bands, where she won the 2018 grand prize.
Bukola officially marked the beginning of her musical career on June 25th, 2021, with single “Fight for Me.” The song, where she describes the act of choosing oneself, was featured in the popular Netflix Series Ginny and Georgia. Following her debut, she released “Golden Hour” (2021) and “Fabric of my Being.” (2022). In November of 2023, Bukola flew from Vancouver to Los Angeles to work on a debut album. After releasing several singles in 2024, she dropped the album The Confessions of an Antisocial Butterfly on January 31st, 2025. This distinctive album centers around a fictional radio station and describes the coming of age of a Nigerian Canadian girl in the suburbs. Navigating themes such as social pressures, exclusion and newfound independence, the pieces speak to youth in the African Canadian diaspora and beyond it.
Currently, Bukola is based in Vancouver, British Columbia and continues to promote her music, perform and create. With accolades like the SOCAN SiriusXM Black Canadian Music Award (2024), she continues to make a name for herself and hopes to show the value of British Columbia’s music scene.
