Born in Nigeria and arriving in Saskatchewan to attend the University of Regina in 2015, Victor Adeolu Oriola, otherwise known as TOVA, started his career in the midst of the pandemic, balancing between coursework and musical aspirations. His love for music was inspired by listening to records from his parents collection during his childhood years. He was originally a writer and vocal producer for various artists, however a bet loss led to him beginning to publish his own music. With his style taking influences from gospel, neo-soul, soft rock and afro-fusion genres, TOVA strives to push his creative abilities into new realms. He states that he wants to be successful in whatever he chooses to do – which in this case, is music. This has led to multiple achievements; he headlined the finale of the 2021 Regina Folk Fest, was nominated for Saskatchewan Music Awards R&B Artist of the Year in both 2021 and 2022, won the award for Contemporary Artist of the Year and played the BreakOut West Festival in 2022.
His main message focuses on the desire to inspire more creatives in the world, his music being described as therapeutic and intense, allowing listeners to take away their own subjective meaning. TOVA stated in an interview with SaskoMusic, that it’s important the music speaks to him, because “if it doesn’t inspire me or make me feel things, then I have zero chance of making anybody feel things […] and I’d hate to waste the time of the listener.” In tandem, his music is also described as encouraging people to live in the moment. Moving between both Toronto and Regina, his latest EP, Everything In Its Time, which was collaborated on with the artist vbnd, another artist from Saskatchewan. This album was nominated for Album of the Year in 2025’s Saskatchewan Music Awards.
