Yvonne Kushe is a rising Ugandan‑Canadian singer and songwriter whose work weaves together African roots and Canadian lived experience into a distinctive Afro‑fusion sound. Born and raised in Uganda and now based in British Columbia, Kushe creates music that explores identity, cultural duality, and emotional resilience through soul‑forward melodies and thoughtful lyricism.

Her musical journey began in Uganda, where she developed an early interest in the arts and gained practical experience singing commercial jingles and providing background vocals. In 2010, she officially launched her career as a singer‑songwriter, releasing her debut singles “Mayah” and “Kanywani,” two tracks that immediately demonstrated her genre‑fluid approach. In 2014, Kushe relocated to Canada, a move that significantly shaped her creative direction and expanded her artistic voice.

Kushe’s debut album, Unchained (2022), marked a major milestone in her career. Supported by Creative BC’s Career Development program, the album was recorded at Idio Recording Studios and produced by Ron Nazal. Unchained is a deeply personal project that reflects Kushe’s global lived experiences, blending Afro‑beats, R&B, pop, and soul while addressing themes such as love, mental health, healing, gender, and systemic oppression. The project is widely noted for centering Black womanhood and emotional vulnerability, while also embracing joy and cultural pride.

Beyond her recorded work, Yvonne Kushe is known as a compelling live performer. She has appeared on stages such as Surrey Fusion Festival, Carnival del Sol, Laba Festival Uganda, SoFar Kampala, and other cultural celebrations across Canada and East Africa. Her performances are celebrated for their warmth, confidence, and strong connection to audiences.

In addition to music, Kushe is a multidisciplinary creative and community builder. She is the founder of PolliNATION, a collective initiative that fosters collaboration between artists in Uganda and North America. Through her music and creative leadership, Yvonne Kushe continues to carve out a space that honors global Black identities while telling honest, resonant stories through song.
