Kim Richardson

Born in 1965, and the daughter of the iconic Jackie Richardson, Kim was surrounded by music all her life. An exceptional blues, jazz, and R&B vocalist born in Richmond, Ontario, she began performing in the 80s with her family as The Richardsons. Her first recording “He’s My Lover” in 1985 would go on to win a Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1986. She would win another Juno ‘87 for her second single “Peek-a-Boo” for Best R&B/Soul Recording. In the same year, she won Best Single and Best Female Artist at the Black Music Awards of Canada. She participated in “A Christmas Wish”; a holiday music single collaboration with artists including Billy Newton-Davis, Erroll Starr, Messenjah, and Salome Bey, among others. She has performed over 150 shows, and now is mostly active in Quebec. In Montreal she has performed with the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir, Jill Hillman, and the Merlin Factor. Here she released her albums Kaleidoscope in 2006, followed by Mes Amours in 2001. She has also appeared in and sung for the Canadian film Funkytown; the film captures Montreal’s disco scene of the 70s. She continues her performing music as well as theatre productions, and she continues to work alongside her mother and aunt – Betty Richardson – in varying collaborations.
