20th Century Rebels

The 20th Century Rebels was a Toronto based reggae band formed in the early 1980’s. The 10 artists who comprise the Rebels met while attending high school in Malton, Ontario, and released a 5-song EP titled Rebelution in 1983. The track “Movin’”, was featured on the 1983 release of Q107’s Homegrown – Volume V, furthering the regional success of the group. Their style contains elements from dub, roots reggae, and reggae. The 20th Century Rebels were featured in the 2009 TV movie Rise Up: Canadian Pop Music in the 1980’s, acknowledging their popularity and influence in venues such as Queen St. West’s BamBoo club.
The group disbanded in the mid-80’s and many of the members sought new ventures in the music industry joining new bands, or as solo artists.
The members of the 20th Century Rebels include Adrian Miller (lead vocals), Devon “Peanut” Martin (keyboards, vocals), Paul “Raffa Dean” White (drums), Locksley Blades (tenor saxophone, percussion), G. Roscoe “Cool Breeze” Christie (trombone), Eric De Groot (trumpet, percussion), Dennis “Chucky” Hutchison (organ), Nathan Blackburn (bass), Topo Davis (guitar), Derrick Whoner (drums).
