Da Grassroots are a Canadian hip-hop production team from Toronto, composed of Mr.Attic, Mr.Murray and Swiff, who have been working together since late 1989. Their early production work was done with a variety of artists in the Toronto hip hop community, including Ghetto Concept. Their first full-length album was released in 1999 titled Passage Through Time. Passage Through Time shed light on various Toronto artists such as Saukrates, Choclair, Ghetto Concept, and Marvell. Da Grassroots produced music rooted in traditional hip-hop mixed with different textures and atmospheres. They won the Juno Award for Best Rap Recording in 1995 and 1996, as well as an additional nomination for “Drama” in the same year and category. Following their group success, each member concentrated on solo projects. Mr.Attic Co-Founded Choice Cut Records, Mr.Murray produced for LAL, and prior to passing, Swiff produced for artists on the group’s Black Employed Records.
