After signing with RCA Records in 1972, Dan Hill has made his mark on the music industry both in Canada and in the U.S. Born in 1954 in Toronto, Ontario, Hill has won 5 Juno Awards, 1 Grammy Award, and has received the Harold Moon Award for a Lifetime of Songwriting Achievement. This Torontonian is not only accomplished in his own career but has helped shape the careers of other artists, such as Celine Dion and Britney Spears, as a songwriter and a composer. His musical style is versatile and hasn’t always stuck to pop or R&B, and his career has reflected that same versatility. Hill has contributed to the culture not only as a singer-songwriter, but also an essayist and author. Like many musicians – past, present and future – Hill uses his art as a channel for activism, including his single “What About Black Lives”.  His widespread influence on the Canadian music industry can be seen in the generations of black artists that have followed in his footsteps, clearly influenced by the work of Dan Hill.
