In the vibrant tapestry of Canadian music, Devon Haughton shines brightly. A true pioneer of reggae and dub-poetry, Haughton’s legacy is intertwined with the evolving landscape of Black music in Canada. Born and raised in Toronto, Haughton found inspiration in the pulsating rhythms of reggae and the thought provoking cadences of dub poetry. As hip-hop’s influence surged, Haughton, alongside artists like Carla Marshall and Devon Martin, cleverly navgitaed the ‘raggamuffin’ or ‘ragga’ style, infusing their work with raw energy and lyrical rap prowess. His versatility and willingess to explore diverse musical avenues further set him apart as a true innovator.

He has been outspoken about the importance of representation for Black artists and uses his platform to raise awareness of issues affecting marginalized communities. Throughout the shifting musical trends, Haughton remained focused in his dedication to authenticity and social relevance. His smooth lyrical delivery and his ability to infuse his music with social commentary and personal storytelling serves as a beacon of resilience. His contributions extend far beyond his artistic endeavors as an adovocate for cultural diversity.
