Toronto tastemaker Dave Clarke aka DJ DTS (deep 2 the soul) is a foundational DJ in Toronto’s hip-hop scene. The award winning mixer has over forty years in the business under his belt with hands in sound system culture, DJ crews, and radio shows. His contributions have lent a hand in making urban music in Canada what it is today.
As co-founder of Canada’s longest running hip-hop show, the Masterplan Show, DTS has collaborated with some of the country’s biggest names in the genre, having a direct influence on the evolution of the culture. The accomplished DJ has toured across Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean, earning acclaim. Notably, his mixtape Soul Controllers: Reggae Meets Hip-Hop Vol. 8 won the Justco Mixtape Award for “Best Mixtape” and he was a finalist for the Toronto Arts Foundation Roy Thompson Award for Recognition. Recently, he appeared in the five-part docu-series Black Community Mixtapes as a panelist.
He shares his passion and industry knowledge teaching at the University of Toronto and MTU and works with Mark Campbell at Northside Hip Hop to preserve Canada’s contributions to Hip Hop culture. DTS continues to rock the mix and tour across North America and the Caribbean.
