Drake

Aubrey Drake Graham – known the world-over as Drake – was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1986. A child actor-turned hip-hop star, Drake’s background included multiple musical influences. His father once played drums for Jerry Lee Lewis, while his uncles Larry Graham and Mabon “Teenie” Hodges, played bass and guitar respectively.

Drake first attracted attention as a cast member on Degrassi: The Next Generation. While working on Degrassi, Graham began working and recording his first tracks of his own, uploading them to MySpace, not long before starting to record with members of Toronto’s hip-hop scene. Drake’s first two mixtapes, Room For Improvement and Comeback Season, were released in 2006 and 2007, attracting interest from record labels. Drake was asked to join Lil Wayne’s “I Am Music Tour”, which would lead to Drake signing a record deal with Young Money/Universal.

Eight studio albums later, and Drake is one of the most successful artists in the world. Founding his own record label OVO Sound in 2012, Drake has shattered streaming and sales records time after time, while winning five Grammy Awards and three JUNOs, among several other accolades. An entrepreneur with hands in fashion, nightlife, and entertainment production, Drake is also a global ambassador for the Toronto Raptors NBA franchise. Having consistently represented his hometown of Toronto with pride since his career first started, Drake’s impact on the modern music industry is superlative.
