Happy Holidays from the CBMA Team!
Genre: Pop-Rock, Pop-Punk
Period: 2003-present
Region: Ontario
Despite her success in the pop music scene, Fefe Dobson perfectly embodies the essence of rock and roll, where she thrives. Born in Scarborough, Ontario in 1985, Fefe released her first album at the age of 18. 2 albums later, and Fefe Dobson is a Much Music Video Award and Juno nominee. Dobson has also influenced the pop music scene outside of her own performing career, having written songs for heavyweights in the pop industry in the 2000s, including Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, and Selena Gomez.
As a bi-racial woman trying to make a place for herself in the rock music scene, Dobson is the definition of a trendsetter. She has noted the struggles she has faced in the music industry trying to make her voice heard, and to follow her own unique artistic vision, defying and exceeding expectations. She has worked for her flowers in the landscape of Canadian music, and should be recognized as an artist who has opened the door for a whole new generation of black artists in alternative music.
