Freddie James was born in 1964, in Chicago Illinois and moved to Montreal Quebec at an early age. Freddie James was surrounded by musical influences since birth, as his mother Geraldine Hunt was a successful singer, writer, and producer in the music scene. At the age of 14 Freddie James started his musical career by releasing his EP “Get Up and Boogie” in 1979, which his mother Geraldine Hunt contributed to. The EP “Get Up and Boogie” was a hit as in 1980 he received two Juno Award nominations, for single of the year, and most promising male vocalist. Within that same year he won the Canadian Black Music Award for Best Album. In the following year 1981 he released his second album “Sweetness”. While being on tours throughout the U.S and Canada the demand to see Freddie James live allowed him to tour in Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. Throughout the 1980s Freddie James was involved in a couple of theatric productions, in 1987 he appeared in the Montreal production of “Hair” and landed a supporting role in the film “Wild Thing”. Freddie James stepped away from the music landscape and started his comedy career by attending open mic nights with his friends. Freddie continued attending open mic nights to learn how to work the stage and get his comedic timing right. Over time Freddie James was doing shows in well-known clubs like The Comedy Nest and The Comedy Works. In 2001 Freddie James was picked to perform at Club Soda during the Just for Laughs Festival. There is no one way to define Freddie James as he is not only a singer, but a writer, producer, performer, and comedian as well.
