Born in 1975, in Scarborough Ontario, Kelly Lee Evans went on to attend Carleton University pursuing her BA in Law and English. Due to stumbling upon the Music department is where Evans discovered jazz for the first time and put her studies for her Masters on hold to focus on her music career. Evans went on to release her debut album “Fight or Flight” in 2006, which earned her the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award in 2007 in the category for “Female Vocalist of the Year”. Followed by being nominated for a Juno award in 2007 in the category for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”. Her third album “Nina” which was released in 2010 went on to become a Juno award- winning album for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”. On tour she has opened for acts like George Benson, Tony Bennett, Dianna Reeves, and Maceo Parker. Evans music career came to a halt in 2013, as she was struck by lightning while inside her home. Following that incident, Evans also suffered from a serious concussion in November 2015, as she fainted while getting out the bath, causing a severe head injury along with post-concussion syndrome. Resulting in breathing difficulties and dizziness, Evans was unable to take part in singing and focused on her recovery. In 2017 she returned to the musical landscape by releasing her album “Come On” which earned her another Juno Award nomination in 2018 for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. Her first concert back was held in France on May 16, 2019, for the Jazz Festival à Saint-Germain-dès–près. Followed by another concert in October of that year and a tour throughout France from March 6, 2020, through April 30, 2020. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic Evans used her time in lockdown to write about her personal feelings in relation to mental health and helping others, stories that can be heard on her EP “Greenlight” which was released November of 2021. Evans voice now expands beyond the genre of Jazz, as she also uses her voice for motivational speaking, sharing her journey of recovery and inspiring messages.
