Born in 1988, in Ottawa, Ontario, Keshia Chanté’s debut “Shook (The Answer)” was released at the age of 15 in 2003. The single broke into the Top 10 on Canadian charts and won an Urban Music Award for Best Pop/R&B Single. Her next song “Unpredictable” was released as her first video and hit number one on YTV and the MuchMusic top ten and became certified gold. “Unpredictable” won Chanté the Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Solo Artist in the same year. Her self-titled debut album was released in 2004 and became certified gold within 6 months. She won several JUNO Awards during this time, making her the youngest artist to do so at the time. Her second album, 2U, featured the hits “Test Drive” and “Table Dancer”, earning her several nominations at the 2011 JUNO Awards.
Following the release of her debut album, Chanté was the recipient of the Canadian Music Urban Awards’ Best New Artist, Video of the Year, Fan’s Choice Award, and Rising Star of the Year awards. She has been featured as the face of Ontario Tourism, singing the theme song “There’s No Place Like This,” and has received a star on Walk of Fame in Brampton for her achievements. Her work in the entertainment industry spans beyond music, having been a co-host on BET’S 106 & Park alongside Bow Wow, and hosting Entertainment Tonight in Canada.
