Kirk Douglas also known as Kirk Diamond is a Jamaican- Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer. Diamond was born June 24th, 1984, in Spanish Town, Jamaica and immigrated to Canada (Brampton, Ontario) in 1990 at the age of ten with his family. He was exposed to various genres of music at a young age, as both his father and uncle played records around him.
Diamond’s music career started in 2010 after he joined the dancehall music group Don Dem, where they released two projects Loaded Mixtape in 2011, and The ReMixtape in 2013. In 2014 Diamond released the single “Dem Nuh Real” in collaboration with T.G (Tommy Gunn) and was nominated for a Juno Award in the following year for the single “Love Inna We Heart”. After a couple of years with Don Dem Diamond was preparing to release his first solo EP Greater in 2017. The EP was well received as title track “Greater” spent a total of 42 weeks on the chart peaking at #1 and won the Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the Year in 2018.
In 2018 Diamond also went on to perform at over 72 shows like the Love Thy Labourer festival and the Jambana festival where he opened for the Third World Band. In the following years Diamond continued to release singles and receive recognition for his work, as he was a nominee for Reggae Recording of the year in 2022 and won in 2023 for the single “Reggae Party”. Diamond was also recognized by the City of Brampton as they renamed Shields Park to Kirk Diamond Park in his honor, which makes him the only Canadian reggae artist to be honored with a park in his name. On October 6th, 2023, Diamond released his debut album DREAD, which would give Diamond another Juno Nomination for 2024 Reggae Recording of the Year.
Kirk Diamond shows no signs of slowing down as he continues to contribute to the Canadian reggae and dancehall scene and make a name for himself.
