Kobèna (Kobe) Aquaa-Harrison is a multidisciplinary performer, producer, composer, and storyteller who was born in Ghana, with Bermidian heritage, and later moved to Canada. At the age of ten, Aquaa-Harrison started his first business breeding tropical fish, then transitioned into interior design at the age of twelve and by fifteen he was building and playing electric guitars. His work spans over music, radio, television, film, theatre, dance, and community support. By the time he turned twenty-two, Aquaa-Harrison had become a prime-time Toronto radio host and journalist. The former CKLN FM radio host is known as a visionary resource due to his commitment towards social transformation through his art. His show “Sounds of Africa”, under his leadership, was a #1 prime-time show. From working behind the scenes as the musical voice of CBC 2010 FIFA World Cup to being the President/Artistic director of Afro Fest, Aquaa-Harrison’s contribution to culture can be seen through numerous forms of creative works.

Aquaa-Harrison was the first to introduce “interactive digital music workshops” to schools and universities in Ontario using ATARI. His creative vision has allowed him to work with companies like CBC, TSN, Bell, and Coca Cola, just to name a few. He is an accomplished performer, playing instruments he designed and built himself, like the ‘seperewa’–a rare 17th-century Akan harp-lute. He has performed across Canada, Japan, Bermuda, Bali, and Costa Rica and for diverse audiences such as Lincoln Alexander, Prince Andrew, Alicia Keys, the President & Prime Minister of Guyana, charities and for television.

Aquaa-Harrsion also leads the Djungle Bouti Orchestra that has members from Trinidad, Tanzania, Algeria, and South Africa. Their “Djazz 2.1.4” album was nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award and was recognized by artists like Habib Koite and Mighty Popo. The talented musician has worked with artists such as Andrew Craig, Divine Brown, Deborah Cox, Alicia Keys, Jackie Richardson, Kelly Lee Evans and has taught over 10,000 people the art of African hand drumming. Kobèna Aquaa-Harrison has contributed to the development of culture and social transformation through his prolific artistry. His work has been celebrated and awarded several Dora, Juno, and Chalmers Foundation awards, among others, for his artistry in media, film and television.
