Melanie Fiona’s career in music began in 2002 as part of a trio known as X-Quisite which was nominated for a Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Fiona then went on to become a part of The Renaissance under the pseudonym Syren Hall alongside Drake. She was signed to SRC Records and Universal Motown in 2007, before being signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Her debut album The Bridge featured her chart-topping debut single “Give it to Me Right” in 2009, which peaked at number 20 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, and number 41 on the UK Singles Chart. The second single of the album “It Kills Me,” is recognized as her break-out song, earning her a spot in the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. “It Kills Me” went on to earn a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Melanie Fiona won two Grammy Awards in 2012 for Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for her collaboration with CeeLo Green on the song “Fool For You.” She secured an Eska Music Award (2010), Juno Award (2012), and Soul Train Music Award (2010). She has been nominated for 5 BET Awards in the categories of Best Female R&B Artist, Best New Artist, BET Centric Award, Video of the Year, and Best Female R&B Artist. Her second studio album, The MF Life, released in 2012 featured artists such as Nas and J. Cole, debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, under Universal Motown Records.
