“Created in 1969 in London, Ontario, Motherlode was a group that hit the U.S. Billboard chart. William Smith, Steve Kennedy and Co. were the group’s founding members. They were friends before the formation of the group and struggled through life together.

Motherlode hit success in the United States with “When I Die” at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969. This song broke records with over 500,000 copies sold, making it Number 1 in Canadian charts.
Motherlode collaborated with Dianne Brooks by being a part of her album, and in return, she contributed to “Memories of a Broken Promise” and with background vocals in “When I Die” album. It is famously said that the group initially did not have a guitarist for its performances, and it was done from the keyboard. However, they hired a guitarist for the studio recordings. The group was featured at the “Freak Out” festival, which is a 72-hour festival that is held on the labour day holiday.”
