Mustafa the Poet

“Mustafa Ahmed, also known as Mustafa the Poet, was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1996. He is a Sudanese descendant, poet, singer, songwriter, and filmmaker.
In 2014, Mustafa, who was 18 years old, gained attention for his appearance in Lorraine Segato’s single “”Rize Time,”” a remix of her band’s song “”Rise Up.”” He recited a spoken word poem during the prelude of the song. Later that year, in September, he collaborated with Thompson Egbo-Egbo to create a film called “”Spectrum of Hope,”” which featured his spoken word poetry. CBC News showcased his talents, and he discussed the relationship between art and athletics in his Pan Am poem alongside Heather Hiscox. Drake shared one of Mustafa’s poems on Instagram and tagged him in the post, which led to widespread recognition for him in January 2015.

Mustafa produced a short Canadian documentary film on the hip-hop culture in Canada called “Remember Me, Toronto.” The short film talks about increasing gun violence and homicides in Toronto in recent years.

Mustafa co-wrote and contributed background vocals for “Attention” by The Weekend in 2016. The following year, he co–wrote two songs for Camila Cabello with Dukes: “”All These Years”” and “”She Loves Control””. That year, he was under the limelight on Now’s list of Toronto musicians to watch. Continuing to collaborate with Dukes, he co-wrote “Sucker” for Jones Brothers, which became a hit song. In 2019, CBC Music recognized him as one of the ten impactful Canadian songwriters. Additionally, he played a role in naming all the songs in Frank Dukes’ “”Parkscapes”” sample pack, released in June 2019. Notably, the sample pack was used in Taylor Swift’s album “”Lover,”” and royalties generated from the album’s sales, streaming, or sampling were directed to the Regent Park School. In 2020, Mustafa continued his collaboration with Frank Dukes by co-writing the single “”Monster,”” performed by Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber.”
