Muzion

Muzion is a Canadian rap trio from Montreal, Canada. Distinguishing themselves from their contemporaries, Muzion focused on opening up about raw emotions through music. Dramatik, Imposs, and his sister J-Kyll initiated the group in 1996. Their family was originally from Haiti, but moved to Canada, growing up in the Villeray neighbourhood.
During the late 1980s, Dramatik began rapping by free-styling in the parks of Montreal-Nord. The film Malcolm X directed by Spike Lee, was released in 1992 and profoundly impacted his life’s perspective. Consequently, the teenager started to adopt a more conscious approach towards hip-hop, stating that he became “calmer and wiser” since.
During its time, the group was recognized as a leading music ensemble in Montreal’s urban scene. The first song released “Le Concept,” garnered significant success. Through their music, the band criticized their contemporaries who didn’t have substance in their lyrics, those who dressed in flashy red for rap contests and ended up winning just because they had a particular look. The group held many concerts throughout Canada and played at various festivals such as Coup de Coeur Francophone (1999), Les FrancoFolies de Montréal on three occasions, and the Festival d’été de Québec in 2000.
They also won Album of the Year in the hip-hop category at the ADISQ Awards in 2000, again at the ADISQ Awards in 2003, and Best Francophone Recording Award at the Canadian Urban Music Awards in 2004.
