Born on January 30, 1991, native Torontonian Sean Leon has made a huge impact on the North American rap scene. He prioritizes working with local artists to foster Toronto’s musical ecosystem and empower other artists. Leon has been active in music, film, and television for over ten years. He is the founder of IXXI Initiative Incorporated, a Toronto-based record label.
Leon has created nine albums himself, but he has also worked on early projects with Daniel Caesar, Jazz Cartier, and is credited on Kanye West’s Grammy winning album Jesus is King. He also contributed to writing Justin Bieber’s “Peaches”, which landed number one on Billboard Hot 100. His songwriting skills are ubiquitous within the current Canadian music landscape.
PUPIL is Leon’s creative agency, devoting space and effort to help develop ideas for creatives, especially Black creatives, in Toronto. Through PUPIL, Leon worked on an audiovisual algorithm-based project for his album God’s Algorithm. In this website beta, listeners could see, touch, and hear the album. Elements like visuals, audio files, and NFTs were included. PUPIL supports The Right Now Project, an arts education program for those incarcerated in New York City, by supplying them with instrumental tracks for the inmates.
Leon has also worked as a writer for the Hulu series Utopia Falls and acted as co-creative director on Daniel Caesar’s Case Study 01 Tour. He puts emphasis on resisting the constraints of traditional music releases, infusing each aspect of his art with his own spin.
