Tanya Charles Iveniuk

Born in Hamilton, Ontario and with roots in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, she has become an influential figure in Canada’s classical scene while also pursuing projects in other music traditions, such as Mariachi and Afro dance. Her formal music education includes a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto, an Artist Diploma in Orchestral Performance from the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and she is an alumnus of the National Academy Orchestra of Canada.
Beginning her career in the early 2010s, Iveniuk quickly established herself in the classical scene, participating in the Sinfonia Toronto, as concertmaster and soloist with the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra, the Colour of Music Festival Orchestra Virtuosi, and Associate Concertmaster of the 2015 Gateways Festival Orchestra. Her performances with mainstream artists like Stevie Wonder, the Transiberian Orchestra, David Usher, Shad, and k-os further amplified her professional stature.
Iveniuk is also a dedicated educator, string adjudicator, and clinician both in Ontario and abroad. Her educational roles abroad have included string-education training in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, educational outreach for Ensemble du Monde in Guadeloupe, logistics and string education for the All Caribbean Youth Orchestra program in St.Martin/Sint Maarten, and guest instruction for the Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales in Mexico. She is currently a Sessional Lecturer at the University of Toronto, providing instruction on violin pedagogy. She also provides instruction at two music schools in Toronto that service youth-in-need from high-priority areas; The Regent Park School of Music and Axis Music.
Tanya’s accolades as a musician include the Luella McCleary Award from the Women’s Art Association of Canada, the Gabriella Dory Prize in Music, and the John Cl. Holland Award for Youth Achievement from the Hamilton Black History Association.
