The Carson Downey Band

The Carson Downey Band, a blues rock trio from Nova Scotia, was established in late 1995. Comprised of acclaimed guitarist Carson Downey, his brother Murray Downey on drums, and bassist Marlowe Smith, the group has gained popularity throughout Canada. Their live shows are unforgettable and have earned them a loyal following wherever they play. This band, who named their debut album All the Way, has received glowing reviews and awards for their music. Earlier this year, Carson was awarded the “Fender Guitarist of the Year Award” at the East Coast Music Awards held in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Additionally, this summer, he won the “Dutch Mason Award” for his outstanding contributions to preserving Maritime blues music. Not only that, but the band also won two “African Nova Scotian Music Awards” and has been nominated for two categories at next year’s East Coast Music Awards: “Blues Artist/Group of the Year” and “New Artist/Group.”

Marlowe Smith, the bass player, was taken aback by the popularity of their music. He expressed his surprise, stating that he didn’t expect such a high demand for the type of music they were playing. According to Marlowe, the audience enjoys their rockin’ blues style, which differs from the laid-back blues.
