Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Oluwatobi Feyisara Ajibolade or TOBi is a Canadian artist who defies genre boundaries through a combination of hip-hop, R&B and soul. He is a 4x Juno winner and has performed across Canada and the United States.
Music influenced TOBi from a very young age. He describes the Phil Collins soundtrack from Tarzan—a film he watched as a child, as the first album that drew him to the artform. Additionally, throughout his childhood in Nigeria, he was influenced by the fulani, soul and hip-hop that his family members played for him.
TOBi immigrated to Ottawa, Ontario with his father at 9 years old. After nine months, his entire family moved to Toronto, Ontario and then settled down in Brampton, Ontario the following year. As a teen in Brampton, TOBi participated in his church’s choir and battle rap competitions, enhancing his vocals and lyricism as the years passed.
Upon finishing secondary school, TOBi pursued a Biology undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. Throughout his studies, he continued to explore his musical passion, releasing his debut album STILL under Still Rise Entertainment in May 2019. The groundbreaking piece explores vulnerability in a way that encourages Black men to confront toxic masculinity. During his university years, he volunteered at a mental health facility and eventually worked as a youth service worker in downtown Toronto, this highly influenced his decision to focus on spreading positivity through his music.
Following a successful debut album, TOBi won a SOCAN Foundation Black Canadian Music Award in 2020. Just one year later, his sophomore album ELEMENTS Vol. 1 received a Juno for Rap Recording of The Year. Following this, he became a Juno regular, receiving additional 3 wins and 3 nominations from 2022-2024. His 2023 album PANIC!, which won Rap Single of the Year (2024), was especially recognized—receiving coverage from MuchMusic Canada for its intersectional themes.
Currently, TOBi lives in Los Angeles, California and frequently visits Ontario. He continues to work on music, tour and perform at festivals. Outside of music, he is a mental health advocate—publicly supporting initiatives that aim to help marginalized youth.
