Yves Jarvis

Yves Jarvis (formerly Faux Fur and Un Blonde) is a Montréal-based singer-songwriter and musician. Regarded as a polymath for his genre-bending and experimental music, his diverse array of influences form the basis of his dynamic sound. So many genres and artists are listed in Jarvis’ interviews and bios that there is a good chance there is something for everyone across his discography.

Music was integral to Jarvis’ life from a young age. In Calgary, from the ages of 10 to 13, he busked to make money and performed acoustic folk songs by Chad VanGaalen, Jack Johnson, Joel Plaskett, and Neil Young. He played around with GarageBand as an early introduction to music production and his skills developed under the guidance of clerks at local record stores he frequented. They recorded his early projects and provided young Jarvis with a 4-track cassette recorder.

Jarvis has taken inspiration from a wide range of influences from folk to R&B, including Brian Eno, Serge Gainsbourg, Ray Charles, Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Throbbing Gristle, and Panic! at the Disco. He has cited Frank Sinatra, Captain Beefheart and Joni Mitchell as influences for his self-produced 2025 album, All Cylinders. The title track is recommended if you like, “Speeding through a rainstorm without windshield wipers, Dionne Warwick, Judee Sill, Norah Jones, Marvin Gaye,” according to Jarvis. This unique blend of influences has produced albums that have been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.
